Peter Brauch

UPDATES SOON.

I will be updating this page with new work soon. Having recently purchased a home has been quite a diversion from my creative pursuits. Hopefully as things settle, and I adjust to the beast that is home-ownership, I can return to art and music production with a new-found vigor. Too be continued.........

STATEMENT

I am an Artist. My primary visual language is site specific mixed media installation. I generally use discarded industrial materials, including paint, as the basis for my work. I recycle these elements in each piece I make. My work is completely improvised and unique to the location in which it is made. The nature and final realization of the work is dictated by the material chosen and the environment in which it is created. No two are the same. None will be duplicated. The temporal nature of the work is a reflection of existence.

BIO

Peter Brauch was born and raised in the Suburbs of Northern New Jersey to a absentee alcoholic father and a public school teaching mother. Though creative since he could put a pencil to paper, he did not realize his calling as an Artist until his late twenties after a catastrophic, life changing event. Having escaped a house fire by jumping from a second floor window, then being told that had he not jumped, he would have been carried out dead, dramatically shifted his perspective. It was shortly after this time that he decided to pursue an undergraduate degree, attending Bard College and studying with several notables in the field.

This move allowed him greater exposure to Art, the world at large, and, particularly, an area that he has deemed beneficial to his creative development; The Hudson Valley. It is in this location that he has found his voice as an Artist, and allowed him to cultivate and materialize his ideas. He has shown his work both in traditional and nontraditional settings in the US and Slovakia, preferring raw, abandoned industrial space as the ideal venue for his work. It is within this environment that he feels he is able to connect with his roots and abstractly evoke a dialog with the working history of his home state, New Jersey. This connection is ever-present in his creative being.

He lives among the trees in Southern Columbia County in The Hudson Valley in New York State, though he still calls Jersey Home.
